HOW TO CHECK YOUR BIKE'S COMPATIBILITY WITH A HUB MOTOR KIT?

THE REAR HUB MOTOR

For a rear hub motor, two things are important. Firstly, the type of attachment of the original wheel to the frame, and secondly, the wheel spacing (inner width of the frame). Regarding the attachment system, there are currently two main standards in the cycling world. The first is called "quick release" attachment (Quick release in English). Easily recognizable because the frame attachment points are open (U-shaped) as in the photo below.

Next, you need to measure the spacing of the frame at the rear wheel level. To do this, remove the wheel and measure the frame spacing as shown in the photos below. The European standard is 135mm, however, some bikes may have a larger spacing (e.g., fat bike), and in this case, not all motors will be compatible. In summary, if your bike has a spacing of 135mm and a quick release attachment, it will be compatible with most of our rear hub motors, such as the Touring, Road, Enduro, Freeride, speed, MAC kits...

SPECIAL CASE OF BIKES WITH THROUGH AXLE:

Some mountain bikes, road bikes, Gravel bikes post-2013 have a rear wheel axle called "through axle." The axle passes through the wheel hub and screws directly into the frame (similar to motorcycles). This system is distinguished by completely closed frame attachments as shown in the photos below.

If you have this type of frame, the spacing is likely to be 142mm or 148mm (BOOST standard). In this case, only the rear wheel hub motor kit "through axle" will be compatible with your bike.

THE FRONT HUB MOTOR

If you want to install a front hub motor on your bike, you will need to measure the fork spacing. The European standard is 100mm. So you need to measure 100mm of inner width between the fork ends as shown in the photo below. If your bike has a traditional fork, all our front hub motor kits will be compatible.

WARNING

If your fork is a mountain bike fork with a through axle like the one in the photo (10x110mm, 15x110mm, 20x110mm axis), no front hub motor will be compatible with your fork and you will need to choose a rear hub motor or a crankset motor.
