Why choose an electric kit rather than a turnkey electric assisted bicycle (VAE) ?

Although meeting the same need for use, namely getting around by electric bike, installing an electric kit on your bike is twice as environmentally friendly.

Indeed, the manufacture of a turnkey bicycle requires the use of raw materials such as rubber (saddle, tire, handlebar grips), plastic (pedals, derailleur, cranks) and of course aluminum or steel for the frame but also chemicals such as paint.

It also requires energy to power production and manufacturing machines: press, oven for painting, thermoforming, folding machine, etc.

Some would say that the aluminum or the steel of the frame is recyclable ... yes, but to recycle a material, it has to be forged, which consumes a lot of energy.

In all of this, we must take into account the carbon footprint generated by transport. Indeed, the vast majority of bicycle components and frames are of Asian origin. We must therefore bring in all these products by cargo ships, which are major polluters.

Following our basic carbon calculations, we estimate that the ecological footprint of a bicycle equipped with an OZO electric kit is two less than that of a turnkey eBike.
