What does an electric bicycle kit consist of ?

There are two main categories of electric bicycle kits: Wheel motors and pedal motors.

What does an electric bicycle kit consist of ?

The basic components of a wheel motor kit are: the drive wheel (front or rear hub motor radiated on a rim), the battery, the controller (electronic computer), the handlebar box (Display) and a pedal sensor.

Optionally, you can add an accelerator and a brake cut-off.

The components of the wheel motor kit

The driving wheel

The drive wheel consists of a hub motor radiated on a rim. Note that there are rear drive wheels and front drive wheels.

The drive wheel will be installed in place of your front or rear wheel.

Depending on your bike, OZO will radiate the engine on a suitable rim so that you receive a drive wheel perfectly compatible with your bike

The controller

The controller is the brain of your electric bike. It is an electronic box which receives the instructions from the pedal sensor, the display, the accelerator and the brake cut-offs and which controls the engine operation according to these instructions.

There are controller formats: external or integrated into the battery holder.

If you choose a frame battery, the controller will be invisible because it is integrated into the frame battery holder.

For all other batteries, the controller will be external.

The case on the handlebars (Display)

The display is the dashboard of the electric bicycle. It allows you to activate and deactivate the system, to choose the desired level of assistance and it displays all the electrical parameters and journeys.

OZO offers for each kit different models of displays with more or less functions and different designs.

Pedal sensor

The pedal sensor activates the pedaling assistance. As soon as you pedal, the motor engages; when you stop pedaling, the engine shuts off..

Accelerator (optional accessory)

The accelerator allows manual adjustment of the engine power from 0 to 100%, as on a moped.

Brake cut-off (optional accessory)

The brake cut-off is used to cut off the power supply to the motor when braking.

Although the engine shuts off as soon as you stop pedaling, cutting the brakes is safer in town and for people with balance problems.

You can decide to install a brake cut-off only on the rear brake or on both brakes.

The choice of brake cutoff will be based on the original brakes on your bike.

What does a crankset motor kit consist of ?

The basic components of the crankset motor kit are: the motor unit, which integrates the controller and the pedaling sensor, the battery, the display.

Optionally, you can add an accelerator and brake cutouts.

The engine block

The engine block is installed in place of the original crankset of your bike. This unit integrates the motor, the controller and the pedal sensor.

The transmission plate is to be screwed directly on the engine block.

The Display

The display makes it possible to select the desired assistance mode, to turn the system on and off and to read all the electrical and trip parameters: distance traveled, engine power, battery life, forward speed, etc.

It also allows you to choose the desired level of assistance.

The displays offered with the pedal motors are the same as those for the wheel motors.

Accelerator (optional accessory)

As with the wheel motor, the accelerator allows manual adjustment of the power sent to the motor from 0 to 100%.

Note that the accelerator takes over the pedal sensor when it is called upon.

Brake cut-off (optional accessory)

As with the wheel motors, the brake cut-off cuts the motor when braking.

You can decide to install a brake cut-off only on the rear brake or on both brakes.

The choice of brake cutoff will be based on the original brakes on your bike.

Derailleur sensor (optional accessory)

The derailleur sensor cuts the engine when changing gear.

Very practical for mountain biking, it prevents premature wear of the chain, sprockets and derailleur.
